ABOUT US

As the graduating batch of 2015, 16 sixteen-year-olds from Nanyang Girls' High School, Singapore, embarked on an eighteen-day-long trip to the Philippines as part of what our school affectionately terms, The Capstone Project.

The Capstone Project is an overseas service learning trip programme specially organised to give students the opportunity to look beyond the microcosms of their own societies, and toward the regional community at large. As the name suggests, it is a project that we undertake as something of a conclusion to our four years of education in Nanyang. As Nanyang girls, we believe that it is within our responsibilities and capabilities to be effective agents of change, and to give back to the community through the small means and ways within our reach. This year, our team chose the Philippines as our destination, and commenced a year-long preparation process that ultimately culminated in an eighteen day service learning trip to the Philippines, where we visited and interacted with the indigenous Agta Tribe of Quezon, the Baseco Bay Slums of Manila, and the Payatas Landfill in the Payatas Barangay.

As you navigate this site, we hope that you will be able to learn more about not just our experiences and our takeaways, but also gain a greater insight into the unique and beautiful communities that we were very honoured to have the privilege to engage and interact with. Perhaps, you too may find appreciation in, and draw inspiration from the strength and the spirit of these communities, they way we did in the ephemeral, yet unforgettable time we spent with them.
